Position Summary:

The Derrick Digger Operator is responsible for the safe and skilled operation of a digger derrick truck to perform utility pole installations, foundation drilling, and material handling. The operator must have a thorough understanding of equipment capabilities, load limits, and safety procedures, and must coordinate closely with ground crew members to ensure efficient and precise work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate a digger derrick truck to drill holes, lift and set poles, and handle materials such as transformers or anchors
• Ensure equipment is operated safely and within manufacturer's specifications and OSHA standards
• Read and interpret site plans, utility locates, and job specifications
• Inspect digger derrick and rigging daily; perform basic preventative maintenance
• Set up rigging and lifting configurations to ensure secure and balanced loads
• Work closely with ground crew for safe load guidance and communication
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and equipment usage
• Follow all safety protocols and company procedures, including pre-task planning
• Transport equipment to and from job sites when required

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years of experience operating digger derricks in a utility or construction environment
• Valid CDL (Class A or B with air brakes preferred)
• Ability to read and understand utility blueprints, one-call locates, and load charts
• Proficiency in operating hydraulic controls and using basic rigging techniques
• Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and DOT regulations
• Must pass a background check and drug screening
• Ability to work in all weather conditions and lift 75+ lbs as needed
