Position purpose and essential functions describe leading hospital operations, partnering with Hospital Veterinarians, and coordinating with store teams to provide a smooth, profitable operation with high-quality patient care and exceptional client service. Essential Job Functions Lead hospital paraprofessionals to drive operational excellence, efficiency, high standard patient care and excellent client experience. Create productive, collaborative relationships with veterinarians in the hospital to drive a positive culture and cohesive team environment. Act as point person for day-to-day practice functions including scheduling, equipment function and maintenance, inventory control and ordering, invoicing, patient scheduling, team training, radiological safety, and handling elevated client concerns. Oversee hiring, training, reviewing, counseling and separation of paraprofessional partners, in partnership with AOM (Area Operations Manager) and Human Resources Business Partner. Manage scheduling for paraprofessionals (minimum two weeks out) and maintain hospital partner points per Petco punctuality and attendance policy. Create and maintain doctor schedules with support as needed. Review monthly P&L reporting and partner with Area Operations Manager to drive revenue growth and meet financial targets. Escalate partner or client issues to the appropriate leaders as required. Interface and collaborate with Petco store teams to drive a seamless care customer experience. Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, manage hospital inventory and records, and manage accounts receivable. Maintain a neat hospital environment and OSHA standards, including regular cleaning per schedule. Uphold and enforce all Petco and Vetco Total Care policies. Other Duties And Responsibilities Patient care always comes first. Address issues with patients, clients, or hospital partners promptly and effectively. Foster exceptional teamwork and commitment to shared goals across Petco. Collaborate with the Retail Team to drive a positive cultural and cohesive environment. Provide backup front desk support as needed, including answering phones. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. Nature Of Supervision The incumbent reports to the Area Operations Manager. Planning And Problem Solving Demonstrate strong planning skills to schedule paraprofessional partners, ensuring adequate coverage while controlling payroll costs and maintaining efficient day-to-day operations for an optimal patient and guest experience. Supervisory Responsibility Includes 1 or more direct reports (Veterinary Technicians, Vet Assistants, Concierge partners) with duties such as recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, mentoring, task delegation, and coordination with HR on discipline up to termination. Minimum Requirements 2-3 years of experience in a veterinary practice. If no veterinary experience, 2+ years of strong leadership experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to make decisions, delegate tasks and drive results with hospital partners. Compassionate, professional demeanor in emotional or stressful situations. Telephone etiquette and basic computer skills. Team player with willingness to learn, adapt, and embrace change. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office). Desired Requirements 3-5 years of experience in a veterinary practice. Previous P&L management experience. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. 3+ years in a management role including customer service. Reporting and data analysis experience. Veterinary Assistant/Technician experience in roles of increasing responsibility. Licensed Veterinary Technician or Certified Veterinary Assistant (not required). Change agility and ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment. Desire to Learn and Drive for Results with clear goals and ownership. Work Environment The majority of duties are conducted in the Veterinary Hospital. Physical requirements include bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. Significant client and patient contact is expected. Salary Range Salary range: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour. Pay rates vary by location and regulatory requirements. Final pay depends on position, location, experience, and applicable minimum wage laws.
