Salary: $49,981 - $52,003 Per Year

Reports to: Associate Dean Student Affairs

Percentage: 100%

POSITION SUMMARY

The Student Success Coach is responsible for promoting a positive learning experience for students to effectively increase student outreach, retention, and completion. The position assists students with processes related to admissions, registration, educational and career planning, transfer services, engagement, graduation, and other related topics, as needed.

The Student Success Coach will actively manage a caseload of students through admission to program completion.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Success Coach - Caseload

Connect with students at a minimum of at least once per term, using multiple modalities, tailoring communication to student preferences to:
  • Assists students in the development of an educational plan that connects to an individual career plan, including choosing a program of study, and educates students on the importance course planning.
  • Assisting students with goal setting, time-management, college and career readiness skills, and providing continuous communication and follow-up to maximize degree/certificate attainment.
  • Support students in the use of the college registration portal, financial aid portal, canvas, OCCC email, and other college resources and systems.
  • Provides basic financial aid information to students, referring to Financial Aid Coordinator as needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate satisfactory academic progress of caseload students
  • Refers students to appropriate internal and/or community-based organization for support services.
  • Tracks outcomes on a semester basis for retention, completion, and graduation purposes; utilizes data to make data-informed decisions.
Outreach Activities
  • Participate in recruitment activities in high schools, non-profit organizations, businesses, workforce centers, and other spaces.
  • Track and follow up with all potential applicants.
  • Assists with the development and presentation of student recruitment, success, retention, and completion activities and materials to support students individually and/or in group sessions
Miscellaneous
  • Attends college activities and events to interact with college students, faculty, and staff.
  • Participate in campus wide committees
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree
  • Experience in academic advising, student services, or other closely related position
  • Good oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Bilingual - Spanish
  • Experience in counseling/human services

  • Verbal and written communication skills, and ability to develop and deliver effective public presentations.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency using Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Excel and Word, email, the Internet and social media.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, see and talk or hear.

The employee is often required to have mobility to move between offices, classrooms, and floors; use hands to finger, handle or operate computers, objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

Light physical exertion with occasional, bending, stooping, pulling, and moderate lifting, employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and have the ability to carry equipment and tools of moderate weight, using arms and hands.

Specific vision and hearing abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, and complete and maintain various types of records. Ability to hear the conversational voice and effectively communicate responses.

Work occurs in an office environment with potential for interruptions and background noise.
