POSITION: Registered Nurse - Clinic Surgery

JOB SUMMARY:
RN will utilize the nursing process - assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation - to support the surgical patient population in teaching, care planning and follow-up. The RN will work with the surgical staff to support a smooth transition through all phases of the surgical procedure.
Works cooperatively with the surgeons to assess the needs of each patient on an individual basis and provide the services necessary to meet these needs.
Initiates and manages intravenous therapy, if necessary.
If needed in for clinic follow-up will set up and maintains sterile field, including gowning and gloving.
Provide patients pre- and post-operative instructions.
Works collaboratively with surgery and clinic scheduling to schedule procedures/surgeries.
Performs pre-visit planning for surgical patients.
Performs BCLS per AHA guidelines.
Manages refills for patients pre and post-surgical procedure per refill protocol.
Performs wound care, injections, suture removal, and other procedures/duties as assigned.
Perform care coordination pre- and post-operatively for surgery patients
Provide pre- and post-operative patient education
Triage patients with concerns post-surgery
Perform medication reconciliation pre-surgery
Perform some would and ostomy care, as directed by department needs
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Currently registered with the Minnesota Board of nursing.
Has a current BLS certification (or is willing to obtain within six months of employment)
Experience in surgical pre- and post-operative care; preferred experience in ambulatory health care setting.
Ability to work efficiently, accurately and maintain positive working relationships.
