POSITION: Finance/Investment Intern

Heelstone Renewable Energy is a utility-scale solar, wind, and storage developer headquartered in Durham, NC, with expertise in developing, originating, financing, constructing, and operating solar photovoltaic, wind, and storage projects. POSITION SUMMARY:
Heelstone Renewable Energy is offering a paid internship to provide support in all aspects of renewable energy and corporate finance activities, including M&A, raising and structuring project debt and tax equity, and project valuation analysis. You will work directly with leading industry participants, including developers, financing partners, and investment banks. At the end of the internship, you will have received a robust introduction to the key components of renewable energy finance.
Ideal candidates are self-starters with a passion for finance and renewable energy. Candidates should also have a willingness to learn about the project development process and other dynamics impacting the value of renewable energy projects. This internship requires a commitment of 40 hours a week for 3 months in the Spring or Summer of 2026. This position is located in Durham, North Carolina.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in screening, structuring, and pricing acquisitions and project bids
- Support valuation analyses for internal investment committee approvals
- Support evaluation of debt and tax equity project finance decisions
- Assist in structuring and pricing project divestitures
- Assist in due diligence of greenfield development opportunities
- Assist with market research, analytics, and modeling
SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES
- Experience with Microsoft Excel
- Experience or educational background in finance
- Background knowledge of renewable energy
- High level of initiative and curiosity
- Strong communication skills - written and verbal
- Highly organized with attention to detail
EDUCATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited university
- Completed at least 2 years of study in finance, economics, engineering or a comparable focus
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
