About the Position

This unique position, combining food and workplace safety, is responsible for the oversight of the food safety and quality system and overall workplace safety. The position shall work to maintain and improve the operational functions through procedures, work instructions, inspections and training programs.

Food and Workplace Safety Manager Job Responsibilities:

Food Safety

· Assures operations have clear written work instructions and processes, based on Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and any CFP internal specifications and directions, to achieve operational practices ensuring compliance for safe acquisition, storage and transport of all food products.

· Assures operations have clear written Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)/Housekeeping standards, rules, and processes and monitors adherence to these standards.

· Assists in customer concern resolution and assures proper corrective action resolution is conducted, implemented, and verified.

· Assures through regular inspections, the plant’s food safety / quality system is following policies and procedures meeting FSMA and GFSI requirements and develop and implement corrective actions when necessary.

· Maintain all required food safety documentation including supplier verification, internal audits and inspections, recall records (both mock and actual) and training programs.

· Assists in the program development.

· Analyzes food safety and quality trends and develops plans for improvement with MFG sites.

· Guarantees that all plants have clear written processes for Plant Sanitation, environmental microbiological control, pest control, allergen control, etc. and that processes are followed.

· Trains and coaches Managers, Supervisors and Employees.

· With operations team, prepares facility for annual Food Safety Audit and any random audits that may occur.

Workplace Safety

  • Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure OSHA and company compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.
  • Plans, implements, and conducts preventative care, safety, and compliance training programs.
  • Plans, implements, manages, and maintains comprehensive environmental safety & health programs on premises or at project site locations.
  • Provides leadership team with guidance on health and safety and confirm project site fulfills industry, local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.
  • Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for project site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management. Maintains a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence.
  • Guarantees that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals, internal policies and procedures, contract documents, and good engineering practices.
  • Provides technical support when required.
  • Reports the status of projects to business and market leaders.
  • Participates in team meetings and provides regular on-site project presence.
  • Manages workers compensation cases in conjunction with insurance companies to ensure employees are treated appropriately and the company’s interests are supported.

Requirements:

Position Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in Safety Science and/or Food Safety/Science, Microbiology, or relevant discipline or equivalent experience.

· 5-10 years’ experience working directly with food manufacturing facilities, preferably in a position to improve the procedural quality and/or quality system within the organization.

· Requires operational knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Software, E-mail, Internet applications, etc.) or ability to learn these skills. Preferred SAP knowledge

· Ability to be collaborative and constructive with strong teaching/coaching skills, demonstrated ability to connect with people.

· Knowledge of FDA and government food regulations. PCQI certified.

· Demonstrated capability in investigating and resolving quality issues and improving quality results.

· Ability to collaborate with key corporate functions to align on risk, priority, and scope of programs.

· Ability to multi-task and successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.

· Ability to work independently.
