Job Summary:


The Political Science Department at Marist College invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Political Science position in Comparative Politics beginning Fall 2025. We are seeking a broadly trained candidate who can teach introductory and advanced courses in Global Politics and Politics of the Global South. Candidates should have some combination of regional expertise in Latin America, Africa and/or Asia (ability to teach courses in more than one region is a plus). An ability to teach upper-level courses in your specialization including Democratization, Global Health, Human Rights, and Research Methods is also desirable. Preference will be given to candidates that can also teach classes in International Relations. ABD required, PhD preferred. Strong candidates will be able to provide evidence of teaching effectiveness at the collegiate level.

This position is part of an ongoing cluster hire as we welcome additional new faculty members as part of our Global Studies cluster. These new faculty members will join faculty in the departments of English, history, modern languages and cultures, and political science who focus on Global Studies generally, and Africana Studies and Latinx & Latin American Studies specifically. The position is also part of a major college-wide hiring initiative with the goal of creating a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive institution.


Minimum Qualifications:


A Ph.D. in Political Science or International Relations is required. Advanced ABD candidates will be considered. Teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness at the college level is required.


Essential Functions:


The teaching load will be 3-4 but faculty who achieve and maintain an outstanding record of scholarship may be eligible for a 3-3 teaching load. In addition to teaching and research responsibilities, faculty participate regularly in service activities for our students, Marist College, and the community.

  • Tuition Benefits:
    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • College pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

About the Department/School:


The Political Science Department includes 7 faculty and offers a BA in Political science and a minor. The department contributes substantially to our interdisciplinary programs in Africana Studies, American Studies, Latin American & Caribbean Studies, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. The Political Science Department is housed in the School of Liberal Arts, which includes departments in English, history, modern languages & cultures, and philosophy & religious studies. The School of Liberal Arts is also home to the Center for Civic Engagement and Leadership and the Hudson River Valley Institute, and the Marist Institute for Public Opinion.
